An editor can improve clarity without having authority to redefine the service. A claim-owner map marks the sentences whose accuracy depends on commercial, legal, operational, or customer commitments.
Map claim classes
Create rows for pricing, availability, included work, exclusions, credentials, security, performance outcomes, and customer evidence. Assign a decision owner and a source of truth to each class.
Separate editing from approval
An assistant may correct grammar, preserve approved wording, and flag contradictions. They should not infer a new guarantee from an old sales page or turn an example into a customer result. Material changes return to the named owner.
Keep the map close to the work
Link it from the article brief and include a verification date. When an owner changes a policy, update the source of truth first, then review affected pages. This avoids fixing one article while leaving inconsistent copies elsewhere.
The claim boundary review is a useful sentence-level companion. The owner map answers who may decide; the boundary review answers what kind of statement the draft is making.
The map does not replace professional review where law, regulation, contracts, or regulated claims apply. It routes those decisions instead of hiding them inside routine copyediting.
